Advanced Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

As an early childhood educator, I believe:
1. Collaborative partnerships with children, families, fellow educators, and community. Families and the community place trust when leaving their children in care and as the families are the primary source of information it is critical that there is collaboration when planning how to best support and guide children’s development. The social world of the child is an integral part of how they learn, developing a strong sense of security and trust in the adults around them. Through these partnerships children will make meaning of their world and develop to their full potential.
2. Children are capable and competent - When children have the support and belief from the educators around them, they achieve self-confidence and independence. Realistic and high expectations of children’s abilities enable the children to continue to learn and be challenged. When children are trusted as capable and competent members of the society, they become active participants and decision makers in their learning and world around them. When trust in children is given children’s, universal rights are met, children are acknowledged as unique individuals with their own set of ideas and opinions influencing the world around them.
3. Child-led Approach– An emergent and integrated approach is used to discover and develop the children interests and needs. A range of theories are used to guide the curriculum and the children embrace learning as it is tailored to maximise their strengths, needs and interests through intentional and unplanned experiences. Play is an integral aspect of children’s learning, and it is through observing and assessing their play that a holistic and rich learning environment is created. Through unstructured play children become eager and active participants in their learning.
4. Nature Based Play Spaces – Children will have opportunities to explore nature in its true beauty. Experiences will promote sustainability and appreciation as children connect with nature. Children’s learning environment and resources will include loose parts and natural wooden resources. It is through these experiences and connections children will develop an appreciation of natural environments while developing across all areas of the curriculum including but not limited to relaxation, creative expression, gross motor, problem solving, self-confidence and resilience.
5. Respectful Relationships – Children are unique individuals with their own developing ideas and opinions. It is through respectful relationships that trust, and a strong sense of wellbeing is developed. Through warm responsive interactions children are more likely to display their strengths and capabilities. Through nurturing and respectful relationships children begin to understand themselves and the world around them.
6. Risk Taking – Opportunities are provided and encourage for appropriate risk taking. Through these opportunities children will be challenges and problem-solving skills developed. By trusting children in their capabilities, they will be more inclined to try new things, express their own ideas and develop self-confidence. Opportunities offered will be purposeful and meaningful to the children as they become active participants in their own learning and development.

My goal is to provide a quality care service that is educational and have the children feel respected and heard. I will do this by ensuring the environment is stimulating, enriching, safe and comfortable.

I believe an educator isn’t just a teacher. I am here for your child or children as I am for my own son. I will watch them grow, encourage them, cuddle them, play and learn with them.

I believe play is crucial to the development of all children, it encourages children to imagine, explore, experiment, communicate, reflect, cooperate, problem solve and actively engage in the physical and social environment to promote learning. My program is based on the children's interests, which I have observed then planned into my program reflecting the EYLF outcomes.
